PV Sindhu won India’s first-ever silver medal in badminton at the Olympics on Friday, and was elated after winning India’s second medal in the competition. Sindhu defeated World No. 2 Wang Yihan and Japan’s World No.6 Nozomi Okuhara on her way to the final, but was defeated by the current World Champion Carolina Marin 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 in what was a closely-contested match.
Cash rewards have been flowing in for PV Sindhu once her silver medal was confirmed on Friday, and she and her coach Pullela Gopichand are all set to receive a grand welcome when they reach the city on Monday.

The City Municipal Corporation has planned a felicitation ceremony for the shuttler on Monday at the Gachibowli stadium, which is expected to be attended by more than 5,000 people. The IT offices in the city are also planning to send their staff to the felicitation event for the star shuttler. Sindhu will also be welcomed by school children and citizens at various points from the airport to the stadium.
The Telangana government had announced a cash reward of Rs. five crore as well as 1000 sq yards of land for the shuttler yesterday, besides a job. The state government had also declared a cash prize of Rs. one crore for Pullela Gopichand. The Andhra Pradesh State Government has also announced a reward of Rs.3 crore for Sindhu and is also planning a second felicitation ceremony for the star shuttler.
