Indian maestro Viswanathan Anand played out a 0.5-0.5 draw against Armenian Chess Grandmaster Levon Aronian. This was Anand's third draw in a row after managing similar results against Peter Svidler in the 7th round and Ian Nepomniachtchi, who went on to win the event, in the penultimate round.

Anand missed out on a half chance of going to the top when he faced Nepomniachtchi in his last match. Nepomniachtchi played it safe to remain at the top of the 200000 USD prize money tournament. The Russian pressed for an advantage in the English opening as white. Anand warded off the initial advantage of the Russian by the trade of queens and later by some key positional manoeuvres.

Nepomniachtchi, who started the game as the topper in the chart, ended the day with a safe hand after playing out this cautious game against former World champion Viswanathan Anand.

Both Aronian and Anand ended the tournament with a total score of 5/9, but the Armenian ended up in the third spot due to his higher rating. 26-year-old Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi won the tournament with a total score of 6/9, while Anish Giri finished second at 5.5/9.
