In a NatWest T20 Blast game between Worcestershire and Yorkshire, Ross Whiteley took centre stage when he thrashed Karl Carver for 37 runs in one over. Chasing a score of 234, Worcestershire found themselves in trouble having scored just 136 in 15 overs, but that is when Whiteley decided to put on a show.
Whiteley started off by hitting Carver for a six straight down the ground before picking the deep midwicket boundary, long off and one over long on. After the fourth six, Carver just gave up, and the left-handed batsman went down to one knee and with a shot between fine-leg and square-leg walked his way into the record books.
Whiteley joins an exclusive club that includes the likes of Sir Gary Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, and Alex Hales as players to score six sixes in an over.
However, Whiteley's pyrotechnics were not enough as Yorkshire still won the match by a resounding 37 runs.
“I had the mentality that I was going to go for it before I got in. I hit the first out of the screws and needed to keep going for the team, not for that achievement. It’s something I never really thought I’d do in professional cricket," Whiteley said after the game, reported Indian Express.
“Personal milestone are great, but it’s hard to get away from the defeat. It’s pretty tough to take. We’ve lost four out of five and are right down at the bottom. Obviously, we have to bounce back. There’s no reason why we can’t.”
