Windies have decided to go with a relatively inexperienced squad for the five-match ODI series that will succeed the ongoing Test series as the Chairman of the West Indies selection panel, Stuart Browne stated that the management wanted to hand their youngsters a chance.
“The upcoming tour of India provides a great opportunity to expose some of our young talent. Opener Hemraj Chanderpaul, all-rounder Fabian Allen and fast bowler Oshane Thomas will get their opportunity to showcase their skills, along with Sunil Ambris, who is returning to the fold,” said Browne.
While the likes of Pollard and Darren Bravo would be returning to the squad for the three-match T20I series, Gayle has apparently made himself unavailable for selection for both the Indian tours as well as Bangladesh. Browne clarified that the explosive opener would return for next year’s England tour and the 2019 World Cup.
With India already looking the firm favourites in all the three formats of the game, Pollard and Bravo could come in handy for the visitors despite their long absence from the side. While Pollard had last played for the Windies in T20Is back in September 2017, Bravo hasn’t been playing for the team since November 2016.
