Reports | MCA member calls SGM to remove Ranji selectors

After Mumbai’s terrible show in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, MCA member Khodadad Yazdegardi has decided to call an SGM of the MCA members to remove the Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy selectors. Yazdegardi had also called for a similar meeting last year after the selectors had announced the probables.

According to a TOI report, the Parsee Gymkhana cricket secretary and vice-president Yazdegardi is going to take a step which is rare in Mumbai Cricket Association’s history as he has called for a Special General Meeting (SGM) of the members of the MCA to remove the selection committee which is led by Ajit Agarkar. Nilesh Kulkarni, Sunil More and Ravi Thakkar are the three other selectors in the committee that decided the players for the Ranji campaign this season.

“I’m moving a motion for the SGM by Monday or Tuesday. According to the rule, I’ll have to call for an eight-day notice to the members. I didn’t do it before because the CoA told me that if I call for an SGM, it will be null and void, which was wrong on their part. After they went out, I wrote to the ad-hoc committee. They’ve given me the permission to hold the SGM,” Yazdegardi told TOI.

Earlier on January 28, the same member had written a letter to the MCA CEO CS Nayak requesting him to call an SGM within a span of a couple of days. However, the association had said that the ad-hoc committee which is running the cricket body in Mumbai will not be able to call such a meeting.

The Mumbai Ranji team, under Dhawal Kulkarni's captaincy, managed only one win from eight games in the Ranji Trophy and finished the season at the 11th position in the combined standings of Elite Group A and B after securing only 17 points.
