VIDEO : MS Dhoni gets DRS bang on again by asking Virat Kohli to be sure about Shami’s landing

MS Dhoni’s cricketing acumen is second to none and his DRS appeal proves to be right, more often than not. Today, a Mohammed Shami delivery hit the pads in front of the stumps, but Dhoni advised Kohli that “It was a bowler’s call” as he somehow understood that the ball didn’t land on the length.

India’s appalling DRS appeal in Test cricket came to a halt in the last series as Virat Kohli was pretty judgmental while going for any review. His tension almost ended with MS Dhoni’s return to the fold for the ODI series and the former Indian skipper didn’t take much time to make a telling contribution.

In the 11th over of Australian innings, Mohammed Shami bowled a slower ball which put Usman Khawaja on a very uncomfortable position to go for a flick. The problem for Khawaja was that he had already made up his mind to go for a bottom-handed shot and when the ball kept its line, Khawaja had moved a long way across and the ball hit him on the pads.

While Indians started appealing in unison, the umpire was unfazed by that and denied the wicket. However, the Indian skipper went on to check with his trump card Dhoni to get a confirmation. The wicket-keeper then stated that “Wo bowler ka call hai (It was a bowler’s call)”, understanding the fact that the landing would come into effect, which he realised was anything but perfect. Remember he was also standing way back from the stumps. Kohli also realised it was better not to go for the DRS.

The replays proved that Dhoni’s concerns were right as the ball, despite hitting the top of the stumps, had landed just a bit outside leg, which ruled the LBW dismissal out of the equation.
