IPL 2024 | Twitter reacts to umpire realizing poor verdict after instantaneous decision

no image

In the quick-paced nature of a lucrative league, one may get carried away by the regular to and fro of the contest. A similar happened with umpire Vineet Kulkarni who instantaneously signalled Wriddhiman Saha out before DRS revealed the original story as PBKS squared off against GT.

Riding on the back of a win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Gujarat Titans were forced to bat first after Punjab Kings won the toss. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill were not at their fluent best against the new ball as an Arshdeep Singh delivery threatened Saha before DRS overturned a poor on-field decision.

On the first delivery of the second over, Arshdeep dished a good length delivery that swung into the right-hander to beat the inside edge and thud the back pad of Saha. Umpire Kulkarni immediately raised his finger without any second thoughts before Saha opted for a review. To the naked eye, it seemed as if the ball would be missing the stumps due to elevation. Right after, it proved to be true as the ball did pitch and make an impact in line but missed the leg stump due to height. Even the umpire had a realization facial expression while overturning the decision thereafter.

Seeing the umpire adjudge a poor decision at the very beginning of the contest did not please the Twitterverse.
