‌Opting to bowl first proved fruitful for the Rajasthan Royals as they successfully dismissed Kolkata opener Phil Salt in the fourth over. Nonetheless, Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi formed a solid partnership, guiding their team to 56/1 by the end of the powerplay. While the West Indian Narine displayed aggressive batting achieving a fifty off just 29 balls, Raghuvanshi failed to contribute and was dismissed in the 11th over. Concerns grew as KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer's innings ended comically.

On the 13th over's final delivery, Rajasthan's spin maestro Yuzvendra Chahal bowled a deceptive googly which the Kolkata captain failed to read. Additionally, the ball hurtled past Iyer's bat and struck his pad directly in line with the middle and off stump. Umpire Michael Gough promptly raised his finger upon appeal, and although Iyer opted for a review, the replay on the big screen left no doubt about his dismissal. However, a technical glitch meant it took an eterntiy for the hawk-eye technology toplay its role. Despite initially lingering on the field, Iyer eventually walked back to the dugout with a wry smile as the ball-tracking confirmed his dismissal.

The incident caught the attention of the Twitterverse, sparking discussions across social media platforms about Iyer's decision to review the umpire's call.
