‌Pakistan suffer massive blow as Aamer Jamal ruled out of Bangladesh Tests

In a huge dent to the Pakistan cricket team, fast bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal has been ruled out of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting August 21. The all-rounder has been suffering from lower back issues since May and his delayed recovery resulted in his exile from the squad.

Jamal was initially a part of the 15-man squad, subject to clearance. Although it was expected that he would miss the first Test, there was a ray of hope for his availability in the second Test starting August 30. However, the PCB announced Jamal’s exit on Monday and is yet to name a replacement.

Jamal was the lone pace-bowling all-rounder in the Pakistani squad for the Test series. In his three-match Test career, the 28-year-old earned 18 scalps in Australia and was the highest wicket-taker in the Benaud-Qadir Trophy. He also participated in the 2023/24 Bangladesh Premier League before giving up on his County stint with Warwickshire due to a back injury.

It has been learned that Pakistan is looking to forge an all-pace attack for the first red-ball game in Rawalpindi. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah are likely to spearhead the group with Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, and Khurram Shahzad being the other contenders.

The Men in Green will likely march onto the first Test with a 14-man squad before the PCB announces a replacement for Jamal, who will be rehabilitating for a comeback against England in October.

Pakistan squad for Bangladesh Tests: Shan Masood (c), Saud Shakeel (vc), Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam, Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Huraira, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wk), Shaheen Afridi.
