AUS vs IND | Twitter reacts to Marnus’ ‘come on’ response to fiery Bumrah turns cricket field into boxing arena

One of the positives from a battle between two of the best sides could be the upliftment of sport’s competitive nature. The second Test between India and Australia resonated a similar vibe during the third session with Jasprit Bumrah and Marnus Labuschagne engaged in a fiery exchange.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first didn’t quite help the Indian batters as Mitchell Starc’s six-wicket haul broke through them in two sessions. On the back of Nitish Reddy’s 42 and a second-wicket 69 runs partnership, the visitors got to 180 runs in the first innings. Eyeing to replicate Starc’s heroics with the pink ball, Jasprit Bumrah was lethal with the new ball against the Aussie top order. With Marnus Labuschagne substituting Usman Khawaja in the middle after the latter’s dismissal an unprecedented turn of events took centre stage including the batter and the bowler.

The third ball of the 13th over saw Bumrah dish a short ball into Labuschagne who incurred a thud at the gloves after dropping off the bottom hand. With the pink rock rebounding towards Bumrah, the bowler threatened a shy back at the batter. However, the batter stood afirm gazing at the bowler’s eyes and mouthed a big “come on” Bumrah. The bowler smiled back at him before bowling a short of a length outside the stumps that Labuschagne got beaten on the outside edge. Bumrah ran a long way towards the batter with a smile before Labuschagne acknowledged with a nod, prompting the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
