Resuming proceedings in the second innings, Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney were watchful against the 20 overs (approx.) old ball donned by Jasprit Bumraha and Mohammed Siraj. The latter almost created an opportunity to dismiss Marnus if not for a thick inside edge onto the pad. Unaware of the fact, the bowler was seen yearning for the wicket in the 36th over.
Siraj came over the wicket on the fourth ball of the 36th over and nipped back a length delivery into the right-hander. Labuschagne played at it a tad outside the line and incurred an inside edge onto the pad. Subsequently, Siraj was seen as overzealous while appealing but the umpire Richard Illingworth seemed unmoved. Following a brief conference with Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and the slip cordon, India went against reviewing. The fact that Siraj only bucketed 17 wickets in his last 18 Test innings gave an opportunity to the Twitterverse to troll Siraj.
No wicket!
Umpire Illingworth didn't rate Siraj's celebration! 😤

Please tell him
Someone tell siraj atleast appeal for lbw, u r not stuart broad nor u have taken 500 test wickets
— Piyush Patel (@PiyushPate39966)
Do well
will do well to first appeal to claim a wicket rather than think it is his right and start celebrating the moment ball hits the pad or there's some noise as the ball passes the bat. He did it in too.

Arrogance
Siraj’s arrogance levels knows no bounds. Now doesn’t even appeal to umpires for lbw’s that aren’t. Knob of the highest order.

Mini thriller
Is it just me, or does DSP Siraj’s lbw appeal feel like a mini thriller? 🎭 Bowls a good one, doesn’t appeal, keeps running like he’s cracked the case. bhai, check the line first! 😅

Maturity
Siraj needs to mature. On the recent LBW appeal
— Vinod (@vbgulwani)
Rohit from behind the stumps cud know that Labuschagne had knicked it before the ball hit the pads but Siraj himself cudnt.
Need aggression of a different kind.
No favours
Siraj doing himself no favours with that arrogant- and clearly wrong - appeal
— james sutcliffe (@Jimmy_TheGent)
Yes please
Get your act right, Siraj. What nonsense appeal 🤷🏾♂️
— Dhanush | ധനുഷ് (@dhanushgopinath)
Goose
