BGT | Twitter reacts to Smith helplessly watching on as rolling ball disturbs his stumps

There's a popular saying that fortune favors the brave. Australian stalwart Steve Smith was courageous enough to stand upright against the Indian attack and stockpile 140 runs on the board but for a twist, luck ruined his stellar knock due to a bizarre dismissal on the second day of the MCG Test.

Australia initiated the fourth Test on a positive note with their top three in Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, and Marnus Labuschagne fetching half-centuries on the opening day. Although India managed to extract half a dozen wickets by Stumps, Steve Smith kept the Australian scorecard ticking by his natural strokeplay. The stalwart continued to blossom on the next day as he smoked centuries in back-to-back Tests. The batter switched gears following his ton but was unlucky to get dismissed off Akash Deep in a bizarre way.

The first ball of the 115th over saw Akash Deep come over the wicket and bowl a length delivery into the right-hander. Smith shimmied down the track to hack across the line but ended up with an inside edge back to his pads and onto the wickets. The ball almost died near the stumps, instead rolled onto it and dropped the bails resting on the groove. Smith was dejected with this form of dismissal but the Indian group had a sigh of relief despite the damage being done, leaving the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
