Test cricket is frequently associated with valuable life lessons and is renowned for its emphasis on virtues. Kevin Sinclairs was thoroughly tested by Mark Wood’s brute pace leading to an uncanny dismissal on the fourth day of England versus West Indies' second Test in Trent Bridge.

After centuries from Harry Brook and Joe Root steered England to post 426 runs in the third Test, West Indies were left with no choice but to replicate their 2021 brilliance against Bangladesh where they overhauled a 395-run target. Although Kraigg Brathwaite and Mikyle Louis got off to a steady start, the hosts turned the tables in a matter of time to push them on the back foot. One of the highlights of England’s fierce bowling on the fourth day was Mark Wood rushing the opposition batters with sheer pace with Sinclairs being one of his victims.

Following the loss of four wickets for 16 runs in a span of 26 balls, Sinclairs and Jason Holder were left with the task to withstand the English attack. However, the former failed to live up to the expectations, courtesy of an unfortunate misery off Wood’s bowling. The Durham-based pacer dished a short ball from over the wicket into the right-hander on the second ball of the 24th over. Hurried by pace, Sinclairs tried to swerve away from the ball’s trajectory, and in the process, tried to fend it away. The youngster was stuck in a weird position, and the white cherry seemed to have nicked him en route to the wicketkeeper.

On the TV umpire’s referral, it was vivid that the ball kissed the wristband of Sinclairs that stuck to the gloves, leading to a spark in Ultraedge. Going by the MCC laws, the batter was rightfully dismissed despite a mark of agony written across his face. While the Twitterverse lauded Wood’s brilliance, they felt pity for the Windies all-rounder.
