On the first ball of the opening over, Vivian Kingma sprayed a full ball around the legs of the batter who missed a glance off the pads towards fine leg. Reeza at the striker’s end initiated for a scamper through the strips but de Kock stuttered after trudging off from the bowler’s end. This led to a start-and-stop action from Hendricks who eventually aborted the run to return back while the southpaw was stuck at three-fourth of the pitch towards the striker’s end. With Paul van Meekren making a clean throw from short fine leg, Max O’Dowd ran across and grabbed the ball to whip the bails at the non-striker’s end.
The huge mix-up on the first ball itself triggered the Twitterverse to draw labels from South Africa’s recent defeats against the Dutch in ICC events.
