IND vs SA | Twitter reacts as Maharaja reigns supreme over India's top order to give Proteas a big start

All’s well that ends well. While the 2024 T20 World Cup is yet to see a champion, left-arm spinner, Keshav Maharaj offered a dream start to South Africa in the grand finale against India in the Kensington Oval Barbados, which may help the Proteas brigade with a dream start to the game.

With both teams riding on the back of consecutive wins, the main event clash between India and South Africa was expected to be a seat thriller. India won the toss and elected to bat first and was off to a flying start after extracting 15 runs off the opening over against Marco Jansen. However, captain Aiden Markram’s decision to summon left-arm orthodox spin from the opposite end brought South Africa back in the game as Maharaj quickly removed Rohit Sharma and Rishab Pant.

After a couple of boundaries in the first two balls of the second over, Maharaj bowled a fuller one on the fourth ball. A confident-looking Rohit came forward for the sweep but played it aerial into the hand of Heinrich Klaasen who dived to his left and gathered the ball firmly. Two balls later, new batter Pant opted for the same stroke and was bemused by the variation of pace by the bowler. The southpaw got a top edge on the sweep and the white rock ballooned up straight into the safe hand of Quinton de Kock, handing an early blow in the Indian contingent.

The ploy to bring Maharaj definitely panned out fruitful for the African nation and here;s the Twitterverse reacted to it.
