BGT 2024 | Twitter celebrates McSweeny and Labuschagne's perfect teamwork to pack off Harshit Rana

Great efforts in the field often lead to extraordinary results, and the camaraderie between players can bring great moments. Such was the case on the first day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when Nathan McSweeny and Marnus Labuschagne combined for a stunning catch to dismiss Harshit Rana.

‌India’s top order had faltered, leaving them at 47/4 in 22.2 overs, with no significant contributions from Virat Kohli or Dhruv Jurel. KL Rahul had anchored the innings with 26 off 74, but there were no substantial partnerships. Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy built a 48-run stand, bringing India to 121/6 in 45 overs. However, the wickets kept falling, and after Pant’s dismissal for 37 off 78, it was Harshit Rana’s turn to be dismissed spectacularly.

On the fourth ball of the 47th over, Hazlewood bowled a good-length delivery outside the off stump. Rana, playing off the back foot, poked at the ball with hard hands and got an outside edge that flew between gully and third slip. Nathan McSweeney, stationed at the gully, leapt and got his left hand on it, deflecting the ball to the right of third slip. Marnus Labuschagne, quick to react, displayed brilliant reflexes and took a one-handed blinder just inches off the ground. The cricket world, including Twitter, was in awe of the sensational effort, and fans couldn't stop praising the exceptional fielding display.
