On the grandest stage, an in-form batter’s aspirations take a crushing hit when they are dismissed for a duck. Such was the fate of Yashasvi Jaiswal on the opening day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, where the young star fell for a duck to a scorching delivery from Mitchell Starc.

‌A packed Optus Stadium buzzed with anticipation as the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy got underway. Visiting skipper Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and chose to bat first. The lively Perth pitch, renowned for its pace and bounce, came alive as Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood delivered fiery spells. India’s scorecard read 5/0 after two overs, with openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal cautiously navigating the tricky conditions. However, the opening stand was short-lived as Starc struck early, dismissing the young southpaw with a stunning delivery.

On the first ball of the third over, Starc unleashed a pinpoint inswinger that angled slightly away. Pitched full, the red cherry invited Jaiswal to stride forward for an ambitious cover drive. However, the ball found a thick outside edge, flying swiftly through the gully region. Debutant Nathan McSweeney, stationed perfectly, displayed sharp reflexes to take a clean catch, sending Jaiswal back for a duck. The Twitterverse erupted in praise for Starc’s fiery start while expressing sympathy for Jaiswal’s unfortunate dismissal in challenging conditions Down Under.
