Duleep Trophy | Twitter in awe as Sarfaraz takes Akash Deep to cleaners with five-boundary onslaught

Attack as the best form of defence and breaking down the walls when they are closing in are strategies as old as time in red-ball cricket. However, few exemplify the principle the way Sarfaraz Khan did in Bengaluru on Saturday by smashing Akash Deep for five back-to-back boundaries under pressure.

India A fought back with aplomb in the second session of Day 3 at Chinnaswamy Stadium with three early blows leaving India B reeling at 22/3, despite having taken a 90-run first innings lead. The onus thus fell on Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan's shoulders to stabilize proceedings for their side as they took to the crease in the third session and little did the opposition know of the storm that awaited them.

Akash Deep resumed proceedings after Tea and began with an innocous delivery outside off stump that was left alone by Sarfaraz. The Bengal pacer then tried the same tactic again but went a bit shorter and Sarfaraz capitalized by deftly guiding the red cherry past second slip fine of third-man for a boundary. Akash resorted to a fuller delivery with his third ball and managed to hit the length but was promptly driven on the up through the covers for a gorgeous boundary. Under pressure, Akash tried to go straighter but overcorrected as the ball veered onto the pads and Sarfaraz comfortably put it away through square leg for a third four on the trot. Akash went fuller, Sarfaraz responded with a resplendent straight drive to now put Akash deep under severe duress. The Bengal pacer could only manage a tame short and wide delivery that was expertly guided through the vacant point region for a fifth consecutive boundary.

Sarfaraz was all smiles havong racked up 20 runs in the process and Twtterati was quick to heap praise on the upcoming star.

Everything is fair in love and war and apparently sports is a form of the latter without the weapons or so one would think. Mukesh Kumar reiterated how a red leather rock can be enough to inflict hurt as he thumped a bouncer into Akash Deep but was left feeling remorse instantly after.
