IND vs AUS | Twitter ecstatic as Mr ICC Shami ends Smith's marathon knock with pinpoint yorker

There's no better sound for a pacer than the hard cricket ball crashing into the base of the stumps. Mohammed Shami not just had the privilege of hearing the death rattle on Monday, but managed to do it in an ICC Champions Trophy semi-final with the batter in question none other than Steve Smith.

Australia rebuilt well after losing two powerplay wickets through two formidable partnerships in the middle overs to go from 54/2 to 198/5 with the death overs approaching soon. A major reason behind the recovery was Steve Smith's efficiency in the anchor role as his 96-ball 73 helped support a crucial 56-run stand with Marnus Labuschagne and a much quicker 54 with Alex Carey. With the latter partnership nearly coming at run-a-ball, India's grip over the game was slipping and they needed a breakthrough stat. Enter Mohammed Shami, the inevtiable force of nature every time there is an ICC ODI ournament.

On the fourth ball of the 37th over, the veteran quick anticipated Smith charging down the track to create room and fired in a yorker at the base of off-stump. The Australian skipper was taken aback and even though he flayed his hands as the ball passed by at calf-height, he failed to connect causing the death rattle to echo loudly in Dubai. Shami remained as cold as ever in celebration, well aware he had fulfilled his duty for the national team, while the likes of head coach Gautam Gambhir in the team balcony could not help themselves in expressing their enthusiasm in slightly explicit manner.

Twitterati was no different either.
