Indian Super League champions Bengaluru FC and ATK started their Durand Cup campaign on a middling note as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Army Red and Indian Navy respectively, on Monday. Despite creating early opportunities early on in the game, both the ISL sides trailed before coming back.

Fielding their reserve sides for the 129th edition of the Durand Cup’s Group A match, BFC did well to create two chances in the first quarter of the game although a goal was not to be seen with forward Edmund Lalrindika missing both the chances. However, the Army Red did take advantage of the few chances they could create and eventually took the lead in the injury time of the first half with Shil finding goal from Sunil B’s low cross.

However, the Army Red could hold on to the lead until the 81st minute with Suresh Singh Wangjam scored from a penalty to make it 1-1, and the match ended the same way at the Salt Lake Stadium on Monday.

The second match of the day between two-tme ISL champions ATK, who also fielded their second team, against Indian Navy at the same venue in the group ‘B’ fixture. And the result wasn’t any different with the Navy Team finding the lead on as early as the 19th minute through Harikrishna A.U, before ATK came back with an 88th minute penalty by captain Prabir Das.

The result: Group A - Army Red 1 (Liton Shil 45+4)drew with Bengaluru FC 1 (Suresh Singh Wangjam 82-pen); Group B – Indian Navy 1 (Harikrishna A.U 19) drew with ATK1 (Prabir Das 88-pen).
