Reports | Frank Lampard keen on replacing Marcos Alonso with a £70 million star

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is set to make a move for Leicester City star Ben Chilwell as soon as the transfer ban ends. The Blues will be burdened with a ban for just one more window, before being allowed to spend, with reports indicating that a £200 million war-chest is waiting in the backdrops.

A humiliating loss to Manchester United on his managerial debut for Frank Lampard doesn’t bode well for his brand new Chelsea career. The Blues are notoriously known to sack and hire managers at will, although there are reports floating about that Lampard will be given some time. However, with the team that he does have at his disposal and the lack of a mercurial superstar, it doesn’t make his job any easier.

That’s exactly what the Sun has reported, with the English news outlet further adding that Lampard has already started to create a transfer shortlist. One that includes Wilfried Zaha, Yousef Atal, and a few other big names, but the latest name to find his way on that list is Ben Chilwell. The 22-year-old has been a mainstay in the Leicester City back-line, which has seen a few teams mark their interest.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and even Manchester United were all at one point very keen on a move, alongside Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. However, since the Englishman does have 5 years left on his current deal with Leicester, it gives the Foxes the upper hand in any negotiations. This saw both Atletico Madrid and Manchester City eventually step out of the race, instead opting to sign other targets.

But the Sun has reported that Chelsea have no issue with that and are willing to spend upwards of £70 million on the young left-back. However, any move will only be in the summer of 2020, as Chelsea still have a transfer ban imposed on them for one more window.
