Goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte has been signed for a year on loan by I-League side  East Bengal from ISL side FC Goa. The Mizoram-born custodian is going to be the second-choice man in the post for the Kolkata-based side in the upcoming season of the I-League after Rakshit Dagar.

East Bengal has announced on Friday that the youngster from Mizoram will be a part of their side in the 2019-20 edition of Indian domestic football. The 26-year-old goalie was a part of the Kerala Balsters team as well as the Bengaluru FC side in their title-winning I-League campaign back in 2016.

“East Bengal is a name that is well known across the country for its legacy and passionate fan following. I am excited and look forward to playing for this prestigious club. Kolkata football has an ardent fan following and East Bengal fans are the true spirit of the club,” Ralte was quoted as saying by Scroll.in.

“Since my childhood, East Bengal has always been a household name as many players from Mizoram have donned the Red and Gold including the likes of Syhlo Mama, who put Mizoram on the footballing map of India. My goal would be to contribute to the best of my abilities for the team and win the title for the Red & Gold Brigade and its supporters.”

Apart from roping in Pintu Mahata from Mohun Bagan, East Bengal have also signed players like Neroca’s Naorem Singh and Bengaluru FC’s Boithang Haokip ahead of this year’s tournament. They got a big set-back with Jobby Justin leaving for ATK but have kept Spanish midfielder Jaime Santos Colado in the team with a contract extension.
