Twitter reacts as Gambhir shocks fans by sending Narine to open innings

The Twitterati lost it when Gautam Gambhir decided to replace Chris Lynn with Sunil Narine as his opening partner against KXIP. Narine proved to be an able deputy for the Aussie, grabbing the opportunity with both hands with a brilliant 37 off 18 balls.

Winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir cited the dew factor as the biggest reason for opting to field first as IPL returned to the Eden Gardens. The hosts, KKR handed Colin de Grandhomme his first cap in the IPL along with Umesh Yadav and Piyush Chawla also walked into the team to replace Chris Lynn, Ankit Rajpoot, and Kuldeep Yadav. Punjab made just one change bringing Ishant Sharma to the squad in place of T. Natarajan.

Brief scores: Kings XI Punjab 170/9 (David Miller 28, Manan Vohra 28; Umesh Yadav 4/33, Chris Woakes 2/30) lost to Kolkata Knight Riders 171/2 (Gautam Gambhir 72*, Sunil Narine 37; Varun Aaron 1/23, Axar Patel 1/36) by 8 wickets.
