Roger Federer started on the offensive winning the first set 6-2 with ease and appeared to be cruising in the second with shots from a bygone era. The shot in question took place in the first game of the second set when Federer was trailing 30-0 to Haas. The German started the game with a strong serve towards Federer which the Swiss returned with ease.
Haas then retaliated with a rather loosener that gave Federer the chance to set up his beautiful play and the Swiss forced the German to run towards his left which eventually resulted in a low-power shot. Federer then played his master stroke when he deceived Haas into thinking that the Swiss would return the ball to the baseline but he actually played an exceptional drop shot to seize his first points of the game.
However, the Australian Open Champions, eventually, lost the match 6-2, 6-7(8-10), 4-6 after Haas clawed back into the match winning the second set in a tiebreaker and then sealed the third to advance to the third round of the grasscourt event.
