Juan Martin Del Potro was given a taste of things to come as early as in the first set today when an obstinate Rafael Nadal pulled off an inhuman stretch following a magnificent sprint to win a stunning point. The Spaniard has reached the US Open final, where he faces South Africa's Kevin Anderson.

There is never a lost cause when Rafael Nadal is on court, as the Spaniard is widely known for his unparalleled stamina and tenacity. And Argentine ace Juan Martin Del Potro got a hint of it earlier today (India time) when the Spaniard raced the full court to earn a point that looked impossible to win.

It was during one of the pulsating rallies of the first set that Del Potro was leading 5-3. The game was levelled at 15-love when Nadal produced this stunner. Del Potro was pretty sure it was his point before Nadal sent him the wrong way with a sensational lob from his deep left end.

Though Del Potro went on to win the set 6-4, Rafael Nadal came back as a thunderbolt in the next three sets, ending the game 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2, to reach his third US Open final. Nadal will face Kevin Anderson next in a bid to win his 16 Grand Slam title on Monday early morning (India time).

The South African ace is the lowest-ranked men's singles player ever to reach a US Open singles final, since the ranking system was introduced in 1973. This is the first time that he has reached beyond the quarters in a Slam and is expected to be bossed around by the unanimous finals favourite, Nadal, who holds a 4-0 head-to-head record against him.
