Federer showed his brilliant comeback ability in the Hopman Cup final in Perth as he beat Alexander Zverev after losing the first set 6-7(4) in the tie-breaker. But that would be all that Zverev would do on the day as he managed to win just two games in the remaining two sets of the match.
After losing the first in one hour, Federer was back to his very best as he took 23 minutes to take the second 6-0. He was leading comfortably in the third and had three match points when he decided to showcase his brilliance. A vintage Federer winner on match point not only left his opponent scampering but also enthralled the fans. Serving from the ad court, Federer served a wide serve and in three shots had his young opponent stretching out on his forehand.
Zverev's final shot of the match was a return right in the middle of the court and just when it looked like Federer was about to unleash a backhand winner towards the ad court, Federer decided to pull the rabbit out of the hat. Federer with a graceful sliced drop left the German scampering all across the court. However, after the ball bounced once, Zverev gave up hope and with a big smile on his face crossed the net to congratulate Federer on the victory.
