After winning the first game, Paes and his local partner Paire failed to advance further in the French Open as the men’s doubles pair had to bow out in Round 2. They lost the battle 0-6 6-4 3-6 against the third seed Colombian pair of Robert Farah and Juan Cabal. The second round match lasted an hour and 58 minutes with the Indo-French duo ending up on the losing side.
After getting blanked in the first set of the match, Paes and Paire made a good comeback to take the game to the deciding third set but were unable to register a win in the end.
Prior to the match, the Indo-French pair had beaten Britain’s Dominic Inglot of Britain and Martin Klizan of Slovakia 6-4 6-4 in the first round of the tournament. Paes had also played the Maharashtra Open in Pune earlier this year alongside Paire.
Rohan Bopanna is the only Indian left in the men’s doubles in the Grand Slam as he has made it to the pre-quarterfinals with his partner Marius Copil.
