Roger Federer continued his seamless run in the Grand Slam on Wednesday when he was up against Germany’s Oscar Otte. The German failed to take a single set against the World No.3 and ended up losing the game 4-6, 3-6, 4-6.
Roland Garros legend Rafael Nadal was up against Yannick Maden and the German didn’t share a different fate than his compatriot against Federer. His defeat was, however, bigger as he lost 1-6, 2-6, 4-6.
In other matches, while Wawrinka defeated Christian Garin 6-1, 6-4, 6-0, Gregor Dimitrov got the better of World No.11 Marin Cilic in 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in a thrilling five-setter. In another high tempo match, Kei Nishikori got the better of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga with a scoreline of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
In the women’s category, Sloane Stephens got the better of Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) in a straightforward match, while Muguruza got the better of Johanna Larsson 6-4, 6-1. In somewhat of an upset, Viktória Kužmová got the better of World No.5 Kiki Bertens 3-1 as the latter had to retire after getting injured.
