Mumbai Indians to play friendlies against associate countries in United States

Mumbai Indians’ fans will not have to wait another year to watch their team in action. The IPL franchise are set to play three matches against associate nations, in United States, in September to utilize the window which was earlier used for the Champions League, which has now been scrapped.

“The BCCI allows franchises to play three games with associates countries. It builds a fan base outside India. IPL has grown big over the years and we have not only followers in India but abroad too. The recent reports have clearly stated that fastest growing league in the world is IPL. There is no harm if any franchise plays outside India,” a top BCCI official told the Indian Express.

The friendlies are set to be played after the Indian senior team returns from the tour of West Indies in August. This will be the first time any of the IPL franchises have taken such a step, and if successful, this might open up a new window of opportunity for the rest of the teams. Mumbai Indians are expected to inform the BCCI of their decision in the coming days.
