BBL | Twitter reacts to Ferguson and vintage Thunder’s dent Strikers in their season opener
Sydney Thunder beat the Adelaide Strikers by two wickets in their season opener. Despite brisk stands, Lockie Ferguson and Chris Green’s three-fer reduced the Adelaide Strikers to 182 runs before Sams Konstas' fifty coupled with Daniel Sams bizarre ball-striking sealed the deal for the hosts.
Winning the toss and electing to field first in their curtain raiser, Lockie Ferguson and Chris Green struck early inside the powerplay by extracting three wickets altogether. Amidst the setbacks, Jake Weatherald and Alex Ross stabilised the stage by gathering 47 runs inside the powerplay. Jamie Overton assisted Ross in a while to take the Strikes to 84/4 in ten overs. While the Thunder managed to get wickets during the middle overs phase. brisk partnerships during the slog overs including James Bazley’s 12-ball 31 cameo propelled them to 182/8 in 20 overs.
In response, Sam Konstas offered a flying start to the hosts despite the fall of David Warner and Cameron Bancroft inside the powerplay. With Oliver Davies and Sam Billings playing the grafter’s role, Konstas got the license to punish the looseners. They were 93/3 in ten overs, which seemed quite a stable situation before Lloyd Pope and Fabien Allen made inroads with the ball. Suddenly, the Thunder were reeling at 128/6 with Daniel Sams being the lone warrior. With 34 required from the last twelve balls, Sams pumelled three sixes and as many fours in a 31-run 19th over that set up the chase with a couple of wickets to spare.
