Viswanathan Anand wins 2016 Champions Showdown

The tournament, which was played across 5 days, had two classical round robins, two rapid round robins, and four blitz round robins. Every player participated in a total of 24 games each. Anand won 7 of his 24 matches while drawing 16 of them. His only defeat came against Nakamura on the final day of the competition.

However, Anand had a solid lead over the rest, and the loss did not affect his standing at the top, and he finished with 15 points—one ahead of Nakamura (14). USA’s Caruana (11) and Bulgaria’s Topalov (8) finished third and fourth respectively.

Along with the trophy, Anand also won the $60,000 prize money of the tournament.
