In the 21st over, Umesh Yadav trapped Steve Smith in front, with a delivery that kept very low. After the umpire raised his finger, Smith spoke to his partner Peter Handscomb and then looked at the dressing room, to ask if he should go for the review.
However, the umpires caught Smith in the act, and Virat Kohli blasted the Australians in the post-match press conference.
Later, the Australian skipper regretted his actions on the pitch and called it a ‘brain fade’ moment. However, 25-year-old Handscomb has taken up the responsibility for the mistake, insisting that it was his idea to look at the box for help.
He took to the Twitter to own up to his mistake before saying that incident “shouldn't take anything away from what was an amazing game!”.
I referred smudga to look at the box... my fault and was unaware of the rule. Shouldn't take anything away from what was an amazing game!
