Even good students fail to fetch desirable marks on occasion. Although Axar Patel is one of the best fielders in the current Indian cricket team, his missed run out from a close distance sparked plenty of buzz in the English dugout with coach Paul Collingwood gesturing a shy in the third ODI.

Despite losing the toss for the third consecutive time in the series, India posted a formidable first innings total of 356 on the back of Shubman Gill’s 112 coupled with Shreyas Iyer’s 78 and Virat Kohli’s 52. Unlike their counterparts, England got off to a breezy start with Ben Duckett peppering the new ball. However, Arshdeep Singh’s change in pace extracted a couple of wickets in the powerplay before Axar spoiled an easy runout chance in the 13th over.

On the last ball of the 13th over, Hardik Pandya bowled a fuller-length delivery outside the stumps that Banton jabbed towards point and hurried for a single. However, the English pair didn’t lately realised Axar haring at the ball who stopped and made a shy at the striker’s end. Unfortunately, for India, none of the two batters stranded in the middle was dismissed as the the localboy missed out on an easy runout chance by a bare margin. Subsequently, he was devastated and sat crouched near the stumps for a while before the camera focused on the English dugout cracking a laugh at it. Even coach Paul Collingwood, who was a great fielder during his playing days, made an imaginative shy, sparking Twitterverse guffaw.

The character of a leader is tested in times of adversity and pressure. When Ben Duckett seemed to go berserk against the Indian pace duo of Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh’s opening spell, the street smartness to flummox the batter with subtle slower ones worked in favur of India.
