CSK vs LSG | Twitter reacts to Stoinis bewildering Pooran with 96-metre monster six

In the era of T20 cricket, the Caribbean big hitters have made themselves synonymous with lethal striking. Yet, now and then a few freaks of nature arise around the globe that can challenge their supremacy and Marcus Stoinis proved himself to be one with a strike that surprised even Nicholas Pooran.

Lucknow Super Giants struggled for momentum in a challenging chase of 211 against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Tuesday as three of their top four batters combined for a measly 29 runs off 36 deliveries in the first 11 overs. The visitors' only saving grace proved to be Marcus Stoinis given the Australian shook off his struggles in the season so far to bring up a 26-ball half-century and kept his team in the hunt despite the lack of support. In his boundary-laden knock, one particular big hit in the ninth over had even his teammates whistling in awe while all the Yellow Army could do was look on in shock.

Moeen Ali, brought on to bowl his second over, was greeted by Stoinis with a dismissive sweep for a boundary to which the Englishman responded by floating a full-pitched delivery slightly wide of the stumps from around the wicket. The big Australian, in no rush, perfectly timed his wait as the ball arrived before freeing up his arms and launching the Kookaburra over long-on with a clean swing of the willow. The white rock launched into the night sky like a rocket and travelled for a mammoth 96 metres before depositing itself in the top tier of the towering stadium. The cameras immediately panned to his Caribbean teammate Nicholas Pooran who followed the balls's trajectory with amazement before turning around in the dugout and exclaiming 'wow' while his eyes sparkled with raw admiration.

Twitterati did not waste much time in joining Pooran to heap praises on Stoinis' effort.

In the dying embers of a T20 innings, the only thing more crucial for a bowling team than extra runs is having to bowl an additional delivery. No wonder then that KL Rahul was displeased with the umpire on Tuesday after the umpire awarded a wide for what he thought was a well-executed dot delivery.
