IND vs ENG | Twitter reacts to Rashid silences rooting Ahmedabad crowd with last laugh against Hardik’s onslaught

The home crowd are often called the twelfth man and engages in uplifting the morale of their team. Similarly, the masses at the Narendra Modi Stadium were enjoying Hardik Pandya’s onslaught against England’s successful bowler of the day Adil Rashid before the latter had the last laugh.

Winning their third straight toss in the ongoing three-match ODI series, England fielded first during the toss. Despite getting the early wicket of Rohit Sharma, fifties from Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli coupled with Shubman Gill’s seventh ODI century laid the foundation of a big first innings score. However, England’s most successful bowler in the series, Rashid didn’t make the journey easy with a comeback against Hardik Pandya to silence the crowd being the prime highlight.

With six wickets in hand for the score of 275 in 40 overs, Hardik tried to slog Rashid on the fourth ball of the next over. He stepped down the ground to come close to the pitch of the fuller ball at the leg stump and loft it over deep extra cover for a 98-metre six. Not learning from the mistake, Rashid aired the next delivery on a similar area which Hardik hacked down the ground over long off using the feet for another six. The wrist-spinner dragged the length a touch, mixing up with a leg-break that beat Hardik’s intended front foot defence and rolled onto the wickets. Subsequently, Hardik was left devastated despite holding the pose with Rashid utterly pleased. The same crowd that was cheering for the Indian all-rounder at his home was left silenced by the visitor, sparking Twitterverse discourse.
