ISL 2019 | NorthEast United replace Eelco Schattorie with Robert Jarni as head coach

NorthEast United have appointed Croatian midfielder Robert Jarni as their new head coach after they parted ways with Eelco Schattorie following a successful season last time. Jarni was part of the Croatian national team that finished third in the 1998 World Cup to win the bronze medal.

The Highlanders had a difficult post season period after they ended up in the playoffs last season. Not only did they part with the Dutch manager that took them to their best ISL history but he also took with himself the club’s best striker Bartholomew Ogbeche.

The club has also lagged behind the other sides in transfers and getting in Jarni has been a kind of statement by the administration. The 1998 World Cup player has had 81 caps for his national team and has managed Croatian under-20 team before this, although ISL would be a different ball game.

Jarni, as a player, has played for legendary clubs like Juventus, Real Madrid and also Real Betis during his career and has managed European clubs like Hajduk Split, Puskás Akadémia FC and Pécsi Mecsek FC, before he tended to the under-19 team.

“I am thrilled to take on this role at NorthEast United and the project has my full commitment. This is my first foray into managing an Asian club and I am thrilled to bring in an exciting brand of football which the supporters will thoroughly enjoy,” said Jarni, reported Sportstar.
