The 43-year-old stepped across the crease and aimed to glance it with the turn toward the leg side, but failed to connect on the inside edge. Umpire Chris Gaffaney raised his finger without hesitation, and Dhoni opted for the review straightaway. Moments later, the replays showed a faint spike on UltraEdge as the ball passed the bat, but a noticeable gap confirmed there was no contact. The third umpire examined the split screen and ruled out any edge, and moved to ball-tracking, which showed all three reds. A hush swept through Chepauk as Dhoni trudged back for just one. Fans on Twitter were left stunned by his underwhelming return as captain and flooded the platform with reactions.
