LSG vs CSK | Dhoni-Dube magic bring down flying Lucknow to break record five-match losing streak

Chennai Super Kings snapped their longest ever losing streak to hand Lucknow Super Giants their second home defeat of the season while registering their first away win in the process. Rishabh Pant's 63 took LSG to 166/7 on a difficult but Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni ensured it was not enough for a win.
â?strong>Brief score: CSK 168/5 (19.3) [Dube 43(37)*, Rachin 37(22); Bishnoi 2/18(3)] defeat LSG 166/7 (20) [Pant 63(49), Marsh 30(25); Jadeja 2/24(3)]Â by five wickets
Asked to bat first by MS Dhoni on a tricky two-paced deck, Lucknow Super Giants could not make the most of Mitchell Marsh reuniting with Aiden Markram at the top of the order as the latter succumbed to a screamer from Rahul Tripathi in the first over itself. With both Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj managing to extract significant amount of swing from the conditions, runs proved hard to come by, and culminated in the latter brilliantly setting up Nicholas Pooran to send the in-form batter packing in the fourth over. Nevertheless, Mitch Marsh only took the wicket as a signal to step on the pedal and took 11 runs off the next over to help the powerplay score read a decent 42/2. The sudden outburst gave the struggling Rishabh Pant enough time to get settled, but just as he began to get going Ravindra Jadeja bowled a ripper to take Marsh out of the equation. The wicket bogged down the LSG skipper further, meaning Ayush Badoni had to take on the scoring responsibilities and he fulfilled the role with aplomb by launching Jamie Overton for back-to-back maximums enroute to a 17-ball 22, to leave LSG at 107/4 with six overs to go. The stage was set to take his knock to the next innings, yet the flurry never arrived as Noor Ahmed played a huge role in ensuring just 12 runs come in the pacer's next 22 balls, taking Pant to a nearly run-a-ball 40. It took until the 18th over for the wicket-keeper to finally come to life, as he struck Matheesha Pathirana for two sixes to bring up his fifty while Abdul Samad and Shardul Thakur combined for three maximums to help set a decent target of 167 for the visitors.
In response, Rachin Ravindra began with purpose and hit two fours in Shardul Thakur's opening over, before the team's latest Shaikh Rasheed bettered the tally in Akash Deep's over. By the time Avesh Khan had the latter hole out for a 19-ball 27, CSK had already raced to 52 in under five overs, placing thme in the driver's seat. Yet, as has been the case for the Yellow Army throughout the season, the lifting of fielding restrictions immediately turned the tables around. The lack of scoring options forced Ravindra into one shot tooo many as he fell victim to Markram in the seventh over, before Ravi Bishnoi made it a double whammy by accounting for Rahul Tripathi five balls later. With two new batters at the crease, Lucknow mounted pressure almsot effortlessly as just 37 runs came in the next seven overs and included the wickets of Jadeja as well as Shankar to leave the equation reading 56 off the last 30 balls. A loud roar erupted as Dhoni finally walked out to bat, and the cheers only got more raucous when he pummelled two boundaries in the very next over. He then added a six off Thakur in an over worth 14 to bring the requirement down to 24 off the final two overs, before practically sealing the deal by smashing a six off a beamer and then hitting a four off the free-hit. However, the winning runs came off Dube's bat, his boundary through the covers ensuring the Yellow Army got home with three balls to spare. Â
