Sri Lanka have announced a 16-man squad for the two-match ODI series against Australia starting February 12. Although the series holds little value for the Asian nation, the couple of games would be crucial for the visitors who will head to the land of Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SCB) have hardly made any notable amendments to the squad that played ODIs against New Zealand apart from Chamara Wickramasinghe’s elimination. As a result, the squad has been curtailed down to 16 members from 17 that toured New Zealand.

Charith Asalanka will continue to lead the Asian Lions for a couple of ODIs at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Apart from Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, Nuwanidu Fernando, Avishka Fernando, and Nishan Madushka are some of the top-order batting options. The squad oozes with a variety of spinners comprising Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Janith Liyange, and Jeffrey Vandersay.

The pace attack will be spearheaded by Asitha Fernando and Lahiru Kumara with Eshan Malinga and Mohamed Shiraz as backups.

On the flip side, the Australian side will be looking to find the right combination for the Champions Trophy after being struck down with numerous injuries in the squad.
