Samson' side strain forced him to retire hurt amidst Rajasthan's chase

Injuries are an inevitable part of any sport, but sometimes they can be so draining that a player is forced to retire hurt. That was the case for Rajasthan’s captain Sanju Samson, who suffered a side strain during the match against DC, with the pain intensifying as he made his way off the field.

‌Abishek Porel’s 49 off 37 and Tristan Stubbs’ quickfire 34 off 18 powered Delhi to a competitive total of 188/5. In response, Rajasthan openers Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a flying start, reaching 50/0 in five overs. But just as the partnership was building, Samson suffered an unfortunate injury while attempting a cut shot.

On the third ball of the sixth over, Vipraj Nigam bowled a tossed-up delivery outside off. Samson went for the cut but missed it, and in the process pulled a side muscle. He immediately clutched his side in pain, prompting a visit from the physio. A ball later, Nigam bowled a short delivery which Samson drove straight down the ground. Stubbs at long off moved to his right and stopped it cleanly, but Samson’s pain worsened. He looked visibly distressed, signaled to the third umpire, and walked off the field retired hurt. Riyan Parag then came in to bat. The incident quickly sparked reactions online as fans discussed Samson’s injury across social media.
